Abstract
This study was intended to examine differences in sensory profiles of young children aged three or under depending on social and emotional development. Subjects included 138 infants and toddlers aged 12 to 36 months from eight child care centers located in G City of Gyeonggi Province. A parent report-type questionnaire to measure Short Sensory Profile (SSP) and the Korean version of Social Attention and Communication Study (SACS-K) were administered. In order to check whether there were differences in social and emotional behaviors and sensory profiles in terms of gender and age, a t-test
was conducted. A t-test was also performed to check differences between social and emotional behaviors and sensory profiles. Correlation analyses were conducted to examine relations among the scales of SSP, ITSEA, and SACS-K. Results are as follows: First, in the SSP, younger children showed a higher level of sensitivity in vestibular organs than older children. Second, infants and toddlers having social and emotional problems had difficulties in sensory processing compared with infants and toddlers without such problems. Third, a significant difference was found in one item between SACS-K and ITSEA and significant differences were also found in 28 items between ITSEA and SSP.
